Potty Training?!

So, I am going off track this week, and my goal is to get Luke potty trained. We have been trying, not hard, for a few weeks and haven't had any progress. Anyone who has potty trained boys, I need help! I need some ideas on how to potty train! Luke is smart enough and he knows when he is going in his diaper, but doesn't want to sit on the toilet. We even bought him a Scooby-doo toilet seat thinking that would help. He loves to sit on it and pretend, but nothing happens. So, anyone who has any suggestions please share!! I for sure would like him trained by the time the baby comes. Thanks for the help!!!!!

I am not there so I am not much help. I am going to start trying with Burklie around 18 months, so I dont have 2 kids in diapers. Anyways, some things my friends have done that helped were: putting froot loops or the colored dye tablets, so when they pee it changes colors, or they have something to aim for. Also, giving them an M&M or other small treats, or even little toys from the dollar store everytime they potty, so they know they are getting a reward. Another thing that has helped friends is they turn the tub water on everytime they are on the potty, and sure enough they start peeing. Good Luck!

Um hello!!!! I've totally been addicted for months, I thought you knew. I had no idea you had a blog! So glad we've finally found each other on the net. (not like we're not family and should have figured this out a long time ago!)
We just need to get Em on board now!

I am not sure if you want my advise, but it worked for me. I made it really fun to pee outside like on bugs, rocks, on trees! I did this in the backyard of course (PRIVACY). Both my boys loved it and Ky potty trained himself at 21 months just by watching Davis. Another thing is persistance, taking them every 1/2 hour until they get the hang of it. Also even if they acted like they didn't want to go, I would make them sit there, and I would pour a little warm water on it (you know the bath tub always makes them go). And last make Greg teach him sword fighting(he'll know, if not let me know). I warned you that you might not love my advise, but I found that the more fun you make it, the easier it was. You are smart to do it before the baby gets here. I was always nursing when Davis had to pee, SO MUCH FUN!! Let us know the progress!!!
Oh ya the blog give away post was another Mindi on my friends blog!

You are brave. I hope Luke does well. Hopefully the fact that you didn't start too early like I did with Cali will help. I wish you luck but as you know I have no "good" advice.

I just hope it works then Cali may follow. That may be confusing!

Oh frustration, we are still trying to get Brighty to poop on the potty. He will pee, but refuses to poop! Let me know when you get it figured out. Maybe you could help me.

Mindy, I just found your blog from Morgan's. I haven't seen you guys
FOREVER! It is fun to see your little family. I just potty trained my little guy. He is 2 1/2and honestly it wasn't as bad as I thought. Everyone kept telling me that boys were so hard to train. I am proud to say that I did it without using the potty chair or Pull-ups (those are a rip off and don't work AT ALL!) I started off having him sit to pee and after numerous times of being "shot", I resorted to having him stand. He is pretty tall so it works way better. Anyway, good luck.

I haven't potty trained a boy yet, but as far as training Peyton we tried all the things that have been mentioned: rewards, food coloring, warm water, etc. We found the most important thing is that they just have to be ready and want to do it. (I know you hear that all the time, but it's so true.) She also really liked wearing real underwear, which was nice, we never had to use pull-ups, only at night sometimes. Having a couple accidents in underwear didn't feel too good, so she didn't want to have any more. Good luck!
Let us know when you guys can hang out. We're free most nights.
